Herbert J. "Jack" Toy Jr.
June 23, 1936 - November 16, 2021
Herbert John "Jack" Toy, Jr., 85, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, November 16, 2021, in St. Luke's Hospice House after a three year battle with Parkinson's Disease.
Born in Springfield, PA on June 23, 1936, Jack was the son of the late Herbert J. Sr. and Carolyn (Newell) Toy.
Jack and his wife, the former Mary Frances Applegate, celebrated 61 years of marriage. The couple were married on October 1, 1960 in Red Bank, NJ.
Jack graduated from Kennett Square High School in 1954, received a BS degree from Dickinson College in 1958, and an MA degree from Seton Hall University in 1963. While at Dickinson Jack was president of Phi Kappa Sigma fraternity, a member of the Raven's Claw, an honorary society of seven outstanding senior men, and the golf team.
Jack was a successful educator and sales executive. In his earlier years, while living in New Jersey, Jack was a Biology teacher and later became vice-principal of Middletown Township High School at the age of 27. In later years while living in the Lehigh Valley, Jack became owner of the JTA Company in Bethlehem.
As a member of S.S. Simon and Jude Catholic Church in Bethlehem, Jack was a member of the finance council, a lector, and an usher.
Surviving in addition to his wife Mary are two sons and their spouses, Herbert J. Toy, III, and wife Maureen and Timothy A.-N. Toy, Sr., and wife Elizabeth; six grandchildren, Erin Applegate, Bridget Velicov, Herbert J. Toy, IV, Grace Coman, Timothy A.-N. Toy, Jr. and Elinor Toy; and a sister, Carolyn Toy Gilfillan.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, November 23, in S.S. Simon and Jude Catholic Church, 730 West Broad Street, Bethlehem, followed by burial in Nisky Hill Cemetery. Visitation will occur Tuesday from 9:30 - 10:30 a.m. in the church. Arrangements, Pearson Funeral Home, Bethlehem.

Jack loved God, his religion, his family, and a good game of golf. Jack was never afraid of death. He believed if he were ever worthy of entering the Kingdom of Heaven, he would truly be in a better place.
